The Visual History of Tarot | In-Person Workshop by Maison du Corbeau

The Invitation

Long before tarot belonged to candlelit rooms and velvet cloths, it belonged to painters, printers, and card players. This workshop follows that visual lineage: the hand-painted Italian decks made for aristocratic households, the woodblock cards that put the images into ordinary hands, and the twentieth-century artists whose designs still shape what most people picture when they hear the word tarot.

What it is

A single-session, in-person workshop lasting roughly one hour. Led as an art history talk rather than a divination class, with images projected and discussed, and time built in for questions.

Why it belongs

Tarot is one of the most reproduced sets of images in Western visual culture, and almost none of that reproduction gets discussed as art. This session puts the cards back in their studios and print shops, where the symbols came from and why they persisted.

What's included

Every attendee receives a Color Your Own Tarot Deck with an accompanying guide to working with it, plus a printed booklet covering the decks, artists, and periods discussed during the session. Materials are yours to take home.

Suggested use

Come as someone curious about art history, someone who already reads, or someone who has simply always wondered where the pictures came from. No prior knowledge is assumed and no reading experience is required.
